The Benjamin Franklin Chargers have turned their season around.

After a great win against Eastmark on Tuesday night, in which they won 20-3, they are now on a five-game winning streak. As they now sit at a 7-2 record, the Chargers are gearing up to finish the regular season strong and get ready for a playoff push in the 4A conference.

In the first half, it was a defensive battle between both squads.

The game started with Eastmark showing a solid defensive presence as sophomore Mikaela Oberstein snagged an interception. Although Eastmark was not able to generate any offense after the turnover.

After a great defensive stop, the Chargers had a methodical drive down the field. They ended up converting a 4th and goal as sophomore quarterback Adlee Trujillo found senior wide receiver Maddie Falls for a 7-yard touchdown early in the second quarter.

Trujillo and Falls have been working on their connection since the beginning of the season and it seems to only be getting sharper.

“I just say go fast, I can get it to her,” Trujillo said. “I know that she can get past any defender that is in her way.”

“I just know I can trust her,” Falls said. “It’s just great to have that confidence in her.”

Eastmark found some life though in their next drive as they marched down the field but it only ended in a 26-yard field goal by junior Kaylee Markle.

The score was 6-3 at halftime, but the Chargers took full control in the second half. The head coach of the team, Jake Thomas, knew his team had to keep doing what they were doing.

“We didn’t want to change anything, we were playing good,” Thomas said. “We just needed to let them play.”

The Chargers did just that as on their opening drive in the second half, Trujillo found Falls once again for a touchdown that went for 30-yards. After that momentum boost, Benjamin Franklin's defense made sure to take care of business.

Late in the third quarter, the Chargers had their last score of this game, but it was made by the defense this time around. It was a 100-yard pick-six, endzone to endzone, and it was made by none other than Falls herself.

Falls, who does a lot for the Chargers team, is not afraid of the responsibility her team puts on her.

“I’m so happy that they trust me so much,” Falls said. “It’s great to see them place their trust in me.”

The win was an overall amazing team performance, something that Benjamin Franklin has gotten accustomed to in these past few weeks. They have three more regular season games and Thomas is ready to roll for the last stretch of the season.

“We’re gonna take care of business at home tomorrow,” Thomas said. “Then we’re gonna go face Crismon for the region championship, that’s all we’re focused on.”
