Tuesday’s game is a 6A Fiesta girls volleyball matchup between Highland and Williams Field High Schools.
Both teams are fighting to boost their rank to lead the Fiesta alignment, making every game important.
The Highland Hawks have the home-court advantage in this match. Highland is 6-0 on the season, including a clean sweep through its opponents in the Tournament of Champions earlier in September. Led by head coach Tait Nelson, Highland is currently the 7th ranked team in Arizona.
Williams Field moved from the 5A San Tan conference to 6A Fiesta this season. The Black Hawks seem to be adapting well with a record of 6-1. They lost the first game to Mountain View, but have been showing their grit through each win after that.
Black Hawks Head Coach Sienna Sawyer used to play volleyball for Highland back during her high school days. She graduated in 2015, and is now head coach for the Williams Field girls volleyball team in the Fall and the Highland girls beach volleyball head coach in the Spring, making this an unique coaching experience for Sawyer.
A player to look out for this game is Highland outside hitter and opposite hitter Lila Ellsworth. As a sophomore, she is ranked 9th in AZ for kills with 184. On the other side of the court, Williams Field Junior middle hitter Tatum Clay’s versatility of blocking and hitting on the court has helped the team’s success this season.
The important 6A Fiesta matchup for these two teams will be held at Highland High School Tuesday night, and one team will boost its rank in the division with 7 wins.
