The Hamilton flag football team is proving to be a powerhouse program.

The Huskies continue to dominate their way through the regular season, securing a 35-6 win over the Basha Bears. Hamilton not only improved to 10-0 on the season, but it also gave Basha, who was previously 8-0, its first loss of the year.

Head coach Matt Stone, while happy with the win, knows the season is still not over after a great win over the Bears.

“We’re not looking past anyone, we know what we got,” Stone said. “We like these tough games, it makes us better and they’re what make us better.”

The game started with Hamilton marching down the field on their opening drive which saw freshman quarterback Marlie Phillips connect with junior wide receiver Samaya Taylor-Jenkins multiple times. The drive ended with that connection as Phillips found Taylor-Jenkins for a 10-yard touchdown. Even though she’s a freshman, Phillips has been playing flag football for a while and knows how to adjust to new teams.

“This group has been very welcoming,” Phillips said. “We know what we’re doing on every single play every single snap, we give it all we got.”

That was just the start however though for the Huskies. Hamilton ended up scoring on their first four drives of the game. Phillips found senior wide receiver, Mikayla Allen, for a four-yard touchdown on their second drive. Then once again on their next drive, Phillips threw another touchdown this one was to senior wide receiver Aaliyah Opara for a 13-yard touchdown. Then to cap off the first half, Taylor-Jenkins caught another touchdown pass from Phillips.

Basha was able to get something going on their first drive of the second half though as they showed fight every snap. The drive was led by sophomore quarterback Amiah Walker who kept connecting with sophomore wide receiver Luci Burt. Then the Bears put up their first points of the game after Walker found senior wide receiver Marli Stamps for a four-yard touchdown.

Those would be the only points Hamilton would allow all game, and the first points they have allowed since September 30th against Canyon View. The Huskies' defense has only allowed an astonishing 27 points all year. A big reason for that is the chemistry they have, and it is led by senior defensive back Trinity Smith.

“All it takes is communication and chemistry and we got it,” Smith said. “It’s us against us, we don’t really worry about who is in front of us.”

Hamilton went on to score one more time and it was none other than Taylor-Jenkins hauling in a 63-yard pass from Phillips, her third touchdown reception of the game, and Phillips's fifth touchdown pass of the game.

Even after a 10-0 start to the season, the Hamilton Huskies are taking it one game at a time, and Stone is not satisfied until they reach the top of that mountain.

“Our goal it’s not just winning, it's improving and getting better every day until we get to our goal which is the 17th and final victory,” Stone said. “The only one that matters is the last one.”
